Abstract

Background: Chronic strain and low mastery are more common in women compared to men.  Longer duration of unemployment could possibly lead to development and maintenance of impaired somatic and mental health and this may hamper the quality of life. Yoga an ancient science has a spectrum of influence on the psyche of an individual. The present study was designed to evaluate the effects of integrated yoga module on psychological status of un- employed women.  Objectives: To study the effects of integrated yoga in un- employed women quality of life (QOL). Methods: Subjects were assessed with standard questionnaires at baseline and assessed again at the end of 4weeks of yoga intervention. The data were analyzed using appropriate statistical methods. Results: Significant improvement is seen in QOL at post intervention as compared to baseline. Conclusion: Integrated yoga is a feasible and cost effective strategy in alleviating negative psychological symptoms by effectively improving the overall quality of life in un- employed women.
